Q&A with SlabHaus Founder Brandon Boetto
Last month we met with local concrete connoisseur, Brandon Boetto at his shop, SlabHaus. Brandon specializes in high-end concrete and home furnishings. They specialize in everything from concrete sinks, countertops, furniture, planters as well as custom concrete interiors. Creating for both residential and commercial clients. While in the shop we were able to see his magic at play and let us tell you, the hard work and craftsmanship that goes in to every detail is immense. Check out Brandon’s latest project and our interview below.
How long have you been in this line of work?
What does a day at SlabHaus look like?
Most days are spent either fabricating molds or mixing concrete. There is so much that needs to be planned out before each pour that a lot of our time is spent in the pre-planning and design stages.
Describe your work/craftsman style?
Most of what we design and build is considered very modern and luxury.
What is trending? What are your most popular requests?
We get most of our requests for concrete vanity sinks. They are fun to make because there are near endless design possibilities.
Favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is meeting new clients that want to push the boundaries of design and create something that no one else owns.
What got you in to this line of work?
I was in the creative design industry for years so I’ve always had an interest in design, whether it be on a computer or a tangible object. I came across some blog posts on architecture and noticed what was being done in concrete at the time and it peeked my interest. From there I took a class and started tinkering in my garage.
Where do you see SlabHaus in the next 5 years?
SlabHaus will be the premier decorative concrete company in Arizona within 5 years. During that time our first product line will launch and we will be opening a second location in a different state.
What has been your favorite project to date?
That is a tough question. I have produced so many pieces for such wonderful clients. I would have to say the Arrive Hotel project in Palm Springs is near the top of my list.
What inspires your work?
I draw inspiration from many places. I like getting to know the client and what their needs are before we start the design phase. This way we can produce the perfect piece for the needs and space.
What do you want people to know?
I am a third generation Arizona native and I love being a part of the growth of Phoenix. We are constantly amazed by the creative minds in this state. The talent pool here is top notch and we love meeting people that help to push Phoenix in a positive direction.
If you were a crayon color, what would your name be?
Concrete Grey (always sharp, never dull).
So there you have it, a little behind the scenes of Slabhaus. Check them out, we promise you won’t be disappointed!
